PLAISIR DU CHOCOLAT
Update (Nov 2008): Sadly, PLAISIR DU CHOCOLAT appears to have closed down. If you have any more information on this, we would love to hear from you.

ANOTHER BRITISH CHOCOLATIER with a French name is this producer based in Edinburgh. In 2000 the Canadian Heather Kiernan and the Frenchman Bertrand Espouy founded a popular shop and tea room on Edinburgh's Royal Mile serving single-origin hot chocolates among other delicacies. After expanding successfully over the following years, with several shops, the business went into administration in 2007 but was bought up and re-opened a short while later in Thistle Street in Edinburgh. Their single-origin bar collection is larger than the current website would make you believe, on which you can only purchase three different kinds (see bars on the right). The chocolate itself is actually manufactured by the Cacao Barry branch of the Barry Callebaut empire, but that doesn't mean it is not worth a try...

At the time of writing this is the darkest bar in the repertoire of PLAISIR DU CHOCOLAT. It starts of with strong notes of pear which develop into rich flavours of coffee and hazelnut before ending with a dry and earthy finish. In the aftertaste we once again detect lingering taste of nuts and coffee. An altogether well-balanced and interesting bar.

Other single-origin bars include a single-estate bar from Peru (61%) and a Ghanaian milk chocolate bar. As soon as we have a full list of current bars it will appear here.
